Tattoo enthusiasts and tattoo artists are welcome to join and visit the “Kenarau: Sarawak Tattoo Expo 2013” which will be held at Miri Civic Centre on Nov 15, 16 and 17.
The Expo will be from 4pm to 10pm on Nov 15 (Friday), 12pm to 10pm on Nov 16 (Saturday) and Nov 17 (Sunday).
In Iban, ‘Kenarau’ is often used to address people with tattoos. This year’s approach focuses on hand-tapped tattoos, an old-inking technique used in the past. A musical troupe comprising old folks from a remote longhouse to perform traditional songs and dances.
Some 60 booths are expected to be set up this year by 50 participants who have confirmed their attendance.
The participants are from Indonesia, Philippines besides the local ones.
Daily activities during the event will include a tattoo competition, sales of tattoo accessories and tattoo-making equipment, and sales of handicrafts.
